Emily Hale

Violin and Baroque Violin

While completing her MMus in Violin Performance at Penn State, Emily began playing baroque violin as a member of the university’s Baroque Ensemble, directed by Robert Nairn. Since then her principal baroque violin teachers have included Cynthia Roberts, Julie Andrijeski, Linda Quan, Marc Destrubé and Risa Browder. Emily currently serves as concertmistress of the Penn State Baroque Ensemble, which regularly features soloists and guest directors such as John Moran, Risa Browder, Guy Fishman and Andrew Schwartz. The ensemble has collaborated on productions of Charpentier’s Les Ars Florissants and Monteverdi’s The Coronation of Poppea with Penn State Opera Theatre.

In 2009 Emily was awarded a scholarship to attend the Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute, where she performed in weekly faculty concerts and was a section leader for the BPI Student Orchestra. She has also attended several Amherst Early Music Workshops and performed with the Aulos Ensemble and Trinity Wall Street Baroque Orchestra in New York City.

In addition to teaching a private studio in State College, PA, Emily recently completed a  Professional Performer’s Certificate at Penn State University, putting on several baroque performance projects and working with an historically-informed classical string quartet. She looks forward to collaborating  with the New York City-based ensemble Siren Baroque and fusing her passions for teaching and historical performance in a Spring 2012 Baroque Workshop for young string and piano students, “Elisabeth at the Court of the Sun King”.
