Irene Bernstein
Irene Bernstein earned her Master's Degree from
the St. Petersburg Conservatory in Russia. She has more than 30 years of
experience in teaching piano and theory of music to children aged 5 and
beyond. Her teaching is a melting pot of European, American,
traditional and Suzuki methods.
In the year 2001 Mrs. Bernstein attended More
Than Music Summer Music Fest in Kingston, ON. She had the "cherish
forever" training session with Carole L. Bigler, an internationally
recognized Suzuki piano pedagogue, lecturer and with Valery Lloyd-Watts,
the world's most-listened-to pianist, teacher, author of the acclaimed
Studying Suzuki Piano: More Than Music.
Evelyn Bookhammer
Evelyn Bookhammer began studying cello under the
instruction of Marco Branda in Altoona, Pennsylvania and continued her
studies at Mansfield University with Irwin Borodkin. She then studied
with Leonard Feldman, taking graduate credits from Penn State University
under Mr. Feldman. Evelyn continued her cello study with Kim Cook,
also at PSU.
Evelyn is a long time member of the Altoona
Symphony. She plays with Juniata College's Sinfonia orchestra. Evelyn
was also a member of the Elmira Symphony in New York state, while she
was attending Mansfield University in Pennsylvania. She plays chamber
music in the area as well.
Evelyn has her certification in Suzuki books
level 1a, 1b, 2 from the Ithaca Talent Education institute. She studied
book level 3 and 4 with Annette Constanzi. Evelyn studied the over
view of books 4 to 7 and book 5, with Nancy Hair at Ithaca and Chicago
Suzuki Institutes.
Evelyn teaches cello at Juniata College where she
also works with a cello choir. She teaches at Hollidaysburg and at her
house in Alexandria.
Emily Hale
Violin and Baroque Violin
While completing her MMus in Violin Performance at Penn State, Emily began playing baroque violin as a member of the university’s Baroque Ensemble, directed by Robert Nairn. Since then her principal baroque violin teachers have included Cynthia Roberts, Julie Andrijeski, Linda Quan, Marc Destrubé and Risa Browder. Emily currently serves as concertmistress of the Penn State Baroque Ensemble, which regularly features soloists and guest directors such as John Moran, Risa Browder, Guy Fishman and Andrew Schwartz. The ensemble has collaborated on productions of Charpentier’s Les Ars Florissants and Monteverdi’s The Coronation of Poppea with Penn State Opera Theatre. In 2009 Emily was awarded a scholarship to attend the Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute, where she performed in weekly faculty concerts and was a section leader for the BPI Student Orchestra. She has also attended several Amherst Early Music Workshops and performed with the Aulos Ensemble and Trinity Wall Street Baroque Orchestra in New York City. In addition to teaching a private studio in State College, PA, Emily recently completed a Professional Performer’s Certificate at Penn State University, putting on several baroque performance projects and working with an historically-informed classical string quartet. She looks forward to collaborating with the New York City-based ensemble Siren Baroque and fusing her passions for teaching and historical performance in a Spring 2012 Baroque Workshop for young string and piano students, “Elisabeth at the Court of the Sun King”.

Violin
Gretchen Seaver Lee
Gretchen Seaver Lee began her study of Suzuki
violin at age 5 and has been playing ever since. She graduated in 2004
with a B.M.A. in violin performance from Penn State where she was a
student of James Lyon.
Prior to joining the State College Suzuki
Program, Gretchen taught violin and viola for two years at the Intensive
Community Program (an outreach program through Boston University) and
taught privately in State College for two years. Gretchen has
participated in Suzuki Teacher Training courses at the Hartt Suzuki
Institute and Ithaca Suzuki Institute where she has studied with Joanne
Melvin, Ed Krietman, Teri Einfeldt, and Barbara Barber. She is currently
a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas and is certified
through book 6.
Currently, Gretchen performs with Callanish, a
local traditional Celtic music group, and plays in both the Nittany
Valley Symphony and the Pennsylvania Centre Orchestra.
Diane Lindsey
Diane Lindsey has a B.M. degree in piano performance
from U.N.C.G., and a M.M. degree in piano performance and pedagogy from
S.U.N.Y. Potsdam, Crane School of Music. She has completed the
coursework for certification in K-12 general music in N.Y. State. She
has certificates for Suzuki piano books 1-4 and overview of books 5-7 at
Stevens Point, Falls Church and KY workshops.
She is a member of Piano Guild, CPMTA, and SAA. She has
taught for over 28 years as a Suzuki teacher. She has composed chamber
music for children, 2 sets of piano duets and a set of intermediate
solos.
