Lesson and Group Class Policies

  1. Private Lessons

The teacher is not responsible for making up lessons that are forgotten, canceled, missed by the student, or halted due to late or unpaid tuition. If the student knows in advance that he or she will miss a lesson (due to conflict, doctor appointment, vacation, etc.), it is up to the student or parent to make the necessary phone calls to exchange the usual time slot with another student.  All parents should have their teacher’s schedule in order to contact other parents to switch lessons.  If the parent cannot arrange to trade lessons with another student, it is still not the teacher’s responsibility to make up the lesson.

If a student must cancel a lesson at the last minute due to illness or emergency, and there is not enough time to switch lessons with another family (less than 24 hours), that lesson will not be made up.  Please tell your teacher that you will miss the lesson, but do not ask her to schedule a “make-up lesson” for your missed lesson.  Please do not call Woodycrest UMC or the SCSP phone number to cancel lessons.  You are responsible for contacting your teacher directly.

If a teacher initiates a change in lesson time, the teacher will make the necessary phone calls and confirm the change with each student involved.  In case of inclement weather, individual lessons will be held unless your teacher calls to cancel. Teachers will make up any lessons that they cancel.
  2. Group Lessons

Group lessons will be canceled when the State College Area School District cancels school for a snow day, or calls an early dismissal. Canceled group lessons will not be made up.
  3. In-Service Days

Group lessons that fall on an in-service day for the State College Area School District will be held as regularly scheduled unless otherwise noted on our calendar.  Private lessons will also occur as scheduled but may be rescheduled due to a conflict with advance notice and at the discretion of the instructor.
  4. Sickness Policy

Out of courtesy to our faculty and other families, please do not bring your child to lessons - either private or group - if you and/or your child are sick.  If you are concerned about missing a group class, you may take them to a lower level group class later in the week as a make-up.  However, they may not attend a class above their book level.
  5. Refund Policy

Students dropping from the program within the first eight weeks of a semester will receive reimbursement of tuition minus the costs of classes already taken.

Tuition will not be refunded after EIGHT WEEKS OF CLASSES.

The registration fee is non-refundable.  Reduction in tuition or refunds will be allowed in the event of extended teacher illness.

  6. Late Fee

A $25 late fee will be added to tuition payment if paid late, (postmarked after due date).  Lessons will discontinue after 14 days if still unpaid and will not resume until payment, plus late fee, is received.  Please contact the Business Administrator in advance of the tuition due date if you have an issue.

  7. Parent Training

Parent training will be conducted as part of your childs group lesson during the first few weeks or at the instructors discretion.  Please direct questions about Parent Training to your instructor.

Guidelines for the use of Woodycrest United Methodist Church

  1. Woodycrest UMC has graciously agreed to share their facilities with the SCSP.  Please be respectful of the church property and help keep the facilities, including restrooms, neat and clean.
  2. All children (including siblings) must be supervised at all times.
  3. Please eliminate unnecessary noise in the hallways and lobby since other groups may be using the building during lesson times.
  4. Please keep the basement tidy.  Supervise siblings at all times and CLEAN UP after them.  The basement play area is the property of Woodycrest Church -- NOT the SCSP!
  5. Please bring books, toys, etc. to keep siblings occupied.  We conduct lessons in the church school classrooms - so please do not disturb the church belongings.
  6. The organ in the basement is off-limits to SCSP.  Do not allow anyone to play or touch the instrument.
  7. Eliminate non-essential phone calls to the church.  Please call only when there is an emergency.
  8. No food or drink is permitted in the rooms.
  9. Do not leave soiled diapers in any church trash can.  As a courtesy to others, you are asked to dispose of soiled diapers at home.
  10. Please remember: it only takes a single incident of bad behavior to ruin it for everyone!  Let’s work together to keep an excellent relationship with our host.

Communication/Conflict Resolution

Communication

Email is the primary means of communication within SCSP. SCSP families are encouraged to check their email on a regular basis. If you don’t have an email account, please contact the Business Administrator.

Conflict Resolution

In the instances where a conflict/concern exists between parent/student and faculty, the parent should first attempt to resolve the issue with their teacher. If a resolution cannot be reached, the faculty will involve the Executive Director. If a mutually satisfactory resolution still cannot be reached, then the faculty, the Executive Director and the parent will meet with the Executive Committee which will act as Mediator. Decisions made by the Executive Committee will be final.
